Today’s the Day! Part 2

I should now be starting my recovery from surgery by the time this is scheduled to post. After having my second port-a-cath removed, I had to have a PICC line (see Part 1) for information about PICCs) placed in order to receive 6 weeks of IV antibiotics. This was the first time I had, had a PICC placed by a PICC nurse and found that this was definitely the better route to go. Since I could continue to administer the IV antibiotics at home, I only had to stay in the hospital for 10 days, which was by far my shortest stay! Picture is of my favorite type of PICC a Bard Solo Double Lumen Power PICC

I did fairly well health-wise (for me) for the next almost year. It wasn’t until the fall of 2008 that things really started to go downhill. I had, had a good summer and had even enjoyed volunteering a couple weeks at the amazing summer day camp that I had worked for several years earlier and that one of my best friends still (at the time) worked at. I even decided to enroll at a local community college and take two classes (sociology and jazz dance). My next door neighbor had just graduated from high school and wanted to also take classes at the same community college, so we decided to carpool. She even was in one of my classes (dance)! At the same time, I had re-joined a community musical theater group that I was in for several seasons a few years earlier. Life seemed to be going well.

And then I started having a resurgence of IBD symptoms (also known as flaring). Within a few weeks, I had lost a lot of weight and knew that I was headed quickly towards yet another hospitalization. While I was in the hospital receiving intensive treatment to try to get my IBD under control, I contracted hospital acquired MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) which nearly killed me! It was because of this infection that I ended up needing a new knee-joint. (see Light at the End of the Tunnel). So now I find myself undergoing major reconstruction of my left leg and intensive physical and occupational therapy to learn how to walk all over again!

Please be patient with me as I recover from this latest surgery. I will post again as soon as I am able. I very much enjoy reading your comments!
