Here by Denise Grover Swank is about the life of 16-year-old Julia Phillips after her best friend is killed in a tragic car accident. The book begins about 6 months after the accident. Julia is having a lot of trouble trying to ‘go on’ with her life. She once had excellent grades, but now is in serious jeopardy of failing every class. Home isn’t any better and her family is being torn apart by the strain.
Julia’s school counselor and teachers give her an ultimatum either she start doing her school work or be sent to the alternative school. Even though it is only about half way through the fall term, Julia finds herself dozens of assignments behind per class and faces an uphill battle to complete all the work. Her counselor also arranges for a couple of students to tutor her in her subjects to help her catch up.

Mishap & Chaos is the second in a trilogy of novels by M.M. Shelley that takes place in the Hawaiian islands. Kana’i is the grandson of the fire goddess Pele whose cousin Kye was adopted by his father so they were raised essentially as brothers. Twins Tatiana and Grasiella are trying to figure out what happened to their suddenly missing grandmother.
With Kana’i being Pele’s grandson, he has enormous power coursing through his veins, but isn’t the only one with such power. As it turns out Kye has tremendous power of his own, powers that the uncle of Kana’i has serious concerns about. But this uncle has also been listening to the island witch who may or may not be the most reliable source of information.

Review: Mind Over Matter by S.J. Clarke

Mind Over Matter by S.J. Clarke is about a divorced woman whose daughter, Sabrina, was kidnapped 3 years earlier. Rebecca McKenney has a vision of Sabrina now, appropriately older. She is convinced that her daughter is in fact very much alive and goes to see the FBI agent in charge of the case years earlier.
Dan Cooper is the former FBI agent who was the lead on Sabrina’s kidnapping case and because of a possible mistake he made 3 years earlier he agrees to help Rebecca pursue looking for her daughter now. He doesn’t believe in Rebecca having any sort of psychic vision. As Dan and Rebecca begin to dig through all the old leads they start to find a very sinister conspiracy that goes back decades.
